Beach Time... Ruined?

Your POV

I sigh as I’m sitting in the car with Kai and my brother wondering how Kai got shoved into our car. He’s apparently is having work done on his car this weekend. I look at him as we hand each other our suitcases.

I look at Nana and smile at her, “Are you excited?”

She nods as the car stops at the small parking lot at an abandoned beach.

“Wow, this is so pretty even with the cold.”

“It’s not that bad. It’s still warm enough to wear our spring clothes.

“Yeah luckily. It’s been cold all year.”

I watch as Nana jumps around and I simply smile at her.

“Hwayoung,” I look back to see Kai looking at me.

    “What?”

    “Are you busy?”

I shake my head, “No, not really. I thought I’d get time with my niece.”

“Ahh… I’ll wait until later then.”

I nod my head as I pick my niece up and toss her up into the air. When I catch her I watch my brother-in-law smile sadly and I know he’s missing my sister.

I set Nana down and whisper in her ear, “Sweetie, I want you to run up to your daddy and to jump up into his arms. Beg him that you want him to be the one tossing you up into the air.”

She nods her head as she runs over to him. I smile and I laugh when I see the rest of EXO and Taemin plus I think what is SHINee come into view with a soccer ball in hand.

    “Who wants to play?”

“I do,” I shout, “Who’s afraid to lose?”

We pick our teams and Kai and I end up on opposite sides of the field as I meet up with my team.We all pick positions and I’m picked to be the captain via vote of Kris, Chanyeol, and Tao. I roll my eyes as I look to see 2 of the guys from SHINee.

    “What are your names?”

A nice looking guy with brown hair that’s a bit messily done, “I’m Choi Minho.”

I point at the other guy with white blonde hair, “I’m Kim Jonghyun.”

“Cool if you didn’t know I’m Choi Hwayoung. Those 2 on the side lines is my ex brother-in-law, Eric Jones, and my niece, Nana. The boy on the other team is my younger brother Kwan, but you call him Boazi.”

“I thought that was Xuimin,” Jonghyun says as he points at him.

Xuimin shakes his head, “No, it’s the kids name now and I’m a bit sad to see it go.”

I chuckle as I say, “At least you still have Xuimin as your nickname.”

He nods his head, “Let’s get ready to kick some butt.”

We find out that Suho is team captain on the other team by default no one else wanted to be the captain.

It’s halftime at least what we decided would be our half time cause we’re all about to pass out.

    “Hwayoung, how’s your leg feeling?”

“It’s alright; it just hurts a little bit or else it’s just fine.”

“That’s good I’d hate for you have to give up dance Hye min would murder me.”

Kai looks at me confused, “Dance?”

I nod my head since Eric just ratted me out anyways, “Yeah, I was a dancer as well as an artist at my old school. Then my step mother made me quit, but we’re working on a plan to get me dancing again.”

He nods his head, “You should show me your moves.”

“Maybe when the games done,” I tell him only half lying.

Nana runs up to me and hugs me carefully handing me a cup of whatever they decided to bring to drink.

I take a sip and smile as the raspberry beverage hits my tongue, “Wow, you brought this with you. Eric you’re amazing.”

“It’s nothing you liked that type right?”

“Yeah, how did you get this tea here though? I thought that it wasn’t sold anywhere in Seoul.”

“They don’t’ but a friend of mine sold me a few cases of it so I thought why not give it to you.”

“You’re amazing, Eric.” I gush as I take another sip.

“Yeah, I know. Oh which reminds me what was that snack you always loved?”

“You didn’t,” I squeal as I look up at him with Nana in my arms.

He tosses me the amazing snack of strawberry shortcakes by the company Little Debbie.

I’m not sure how long we sit here and relax until they call the game back in order.

I look around and slip off my necklace and show it to Nana, “Sweetie, I need you to hold onto this. I can’t play with this around my neck.”

“Okay, unni I’ll hold onto it. I’ll keep good care of it.”

“You do that,” I slip it around her neck, “I’ll be back for it after the game so leave it on okay.”

She nods her head and I run onto the not very field like beach.

I smile as we play our playful game of soccer. I sigh when we both finally give up and fall on the ground with game point. My team had won only cause we have some sporty and competitive people on our team.

I walk over to where Nana is sitting with Eric.

I walk to her side and she holds the necklace up to my face while the chain is still around her neck, “Auntie, you told me to watch it so I did. Did I do good?”

I nod my head as I smiled at her, “Yes, you did sweetie. Do you know the story about this necklace?”

She shakes her head, “I don’t will auntie tell me. If you get the boy Kai in a different car on the way home I’ll tell you then.”

“Really? You promise,” she says to me.

I nod my head, “Now go talk to daddy, but let me take my necklace back.”

I slip it off from around her neck as I smile at her and slip the necklace back on around my neck.

I don’t bother putting it back under my shirt right away instead I sit there and sip on my drink.

It’s until Kris comes over takes the pendent and drops it down my shirt.

    “What was that for?”

“Kai hasn’t noticed it yet and that’s what we want until you tell him the truth. So until then we’d like it that you’d be able to talk to him and explain.”

I smile over at him, “He already thinks there’s something between us with how much you tease me and that.”

He looks at me, “I had a girlfriend back in Canada before I moved here. We still keep in touch. I hope that I can try to date her again, because once I graduate I’m going back for college. Even if it doesn’t work out or even if it does I’ll always want to come back for everyone here. This is also my home.”

“I think you should try to get her to try long distance dating skyping and all and see how that works for a relationship.”

“How do you know so much about relationships?”

“I’m not sure. I’ve never dated anyone before. I’ve never been in love at least until quite a few months ago.”

He laughs as he sits there with his knees pulled to his chest while we sit on the sand.

“You did fall in love with him,” he says to me with a look on his face that I can’t describe.

I nod my head as I lean back in the sand and rest my elbows on it as I look up, “I guess I did. I’m not sure when I fell in love with whether it was love at first sight or him just being around me that made me fall. I just did.”

Kris smiles as he kisses my cheek to get a rise out of Kai I think, “Well good luck with that cause here he comes.”

I laugh as Kris stands up and Kai pushes him, “What the hell was with that?”

Everyone is just backed up watching and I’m glad that they decided to do this when Nana is not in sight.

“What does it matter to you Kai you have your Cinderella?”

“I like that girl, but she’s not Hwayoung. Cinderella is an amazing dancer and good friend when Hwayoung is an amazingly beautiful girl not just for her looks but her personality. She’s passionate about everything she does and even with her rough patches she’s the kindest and gentlest person that I know.”

I smile as he says that and what Kris says next makes me gasp, “You want to know something Kai you’re just a kid trying to pin his feelings on 2 girls cause you have nothing else to do. You didn’t’ even realize how much her life sucks until your mother told you. You want to say you like Hwayoung when you know nothing about her to begin with.”

Kai ends up decking Kris hard enough for him to fall down. I gasp surprised since even though Kai seems to have his rough patches like Tao he’s too gentle and laid back to really pick a fight most of the time.

“You don’t know what I know about her. I know what happened when she was a kid. Just cause I didn’t’ know she was a dancer you say shit about that, but isn’t falling in love with someone means slowly getting to know them more.”

Kris stands up and cocks his head to the side, “Oh is that right? Tell me Kai do you know who owns her heart right now?”

Kai goes to throw a punch but I jump between them hoping he’ll stop in time, “Stop it.” I open my eyes to see Kai standing there looking shocked with his fist not that far from my face, “Please stop this. God why am I even friends with such children? You know what I’m tired of this. I’m done until you act your age I’m not talking to any of you.”

I go to turn but Kai grabs my hand pulling me towards him and the jolt causes my necklace to bounce.

“What? What do you want from me? Kai just tell me. I’m tired of this the last week you’ve been acting like you are interested in me, but you’re not are you.”

He’s looking at me shocked as he looks at my chest. I look down to see my necklace and I don’t even care. I’m not sure when I started crying or when I ended up in my ex brother-in-laws arms.

I hear Eric yell, “What the hell is wrong with you 2? The rest of you why didn’t you stop them? Hwayoung, are you alright?”

I nod my head, “Yeah. I’m fine I just need to get some air and time alone.”

They don’t’ question me as I walk to the other side of the beach.

Eric’s POV

When I saw her crying it reminded me of when I met Hye Min and my best friend and I got in a fight cause we both liked her.

I smile sadly as I watch her walk away when I look away I look at the ground and shake my head, “She really is a lot like her sister and from what I know her mother.” I look up at Kris and shake my head, “You idiot next time you pull something like this I’ll knock you out no matter your age.” I look at Kai and say, “You’re going to talk to her when she cools down. I know you are shocked and have questions, but realize so does she.”

I walk away and Nana looks up at me, “Appa, why is auntie sad? I took good care of her locket.”

I smile as I scoop my daughter up into my arms and she plays with my sleeve, “I know sweetie she’s not sad cause of that. Her and her friends fought.”

Nana looks back at them and says, “Stupid poopy heads. Auntie hates fighting more than anything. She hates fighting. Fighting made her lose mommy and grandma. Now auntie is a Cinderella.”

I nod my head as I kiss my daughter’s forehead, “Let’s leave the poopy heads to their own thoughts.”

I lead my daughter too the direction that Hwayoung had headed in. Though I’m keeping my distance so she’ll have time to calm down.
